How to market your online course

Creating an online course is a lot of work but it’s only half the battle.

You also need to market your online course otherwise no one will buy it.

Whether you’re thinking about launching an online course or you already have one, here are some best marketing practices to follow.

First, you need to decide who your online course is for. Your target audience or ideal customer for your course impacts how you market it so don’t skip this step.

Build a waitlist before you officially “launch” your course. This will help validate your course idea.

Consider hosting a free webinar on a topic related to your course. This gives potential customers the opportunity to “try before they buy” from you. It’s also an effective way to generate emails.

If you have an owned audience like an email list, you can offer them a special discount to your course. I’m not a huge fan of discounting in general because it can cheapen the perceived value of your product. With that said, everyone loves a discount. Just use it sparingly.

Create scarcity and urgency. For example, limit the number of seats in your course and give a deadline for people to sign up. Without it, people may not be motivated to buy from you right now.
