Tech companies are creating Psychology Today profiles without therapists knowing
According to a therapist on Reddit, the online therapy platform Rula set up a Psychology Today profile in their name without them knowing.
The profile included a link to the Rula website, not their website, meaning potential clients who were searching for them were funneled over to Rula instead.
Rula promotes it as a “free” Psychology Today profile for therapists who use their service which isn’t entirely genuine.
They’re not the only tech company doing this. In fact, when I did my own research into why referrals from Psychology Today are down, Headway’s website and Alma’s website were the top link destinations from Psychology Today.
This could be from therapists linking to their Headway or Alma profile from their Psychology Today profile or it could be Headway and Alma creating profiles for therapists using their service.
If you use these services and you’re getting referrals from their listings, great. But if they’re competing with your actual profile, then you may want to bring it up with them.
